Maria R. Acosta of Santa Maria passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018.

Maria was born February 11th, 1932 in El Capote Ranch Texas, to Jesus and Isabel Cantu. She attended elementary school to the 5th grade and started working for her godmother as a clerk at her grocery / hardware store where she went on to meet her future husband Alberto Acosta. They were married on September 29, 1951 and remained married until he passed away in 2014. They had a total of 10 children.

Maria will be fondly remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and loyal friend to many. She loved to cook and she would always make her children and grandchildren their favorite food dishes and depending on the time of year she would make all their traditional foods from Mexico. She will be greatly missed by many.

Maria is preceded in death by her husband Alberto Acosta and their infant daughter Sylvia Acosta. She is survived by her children, Carlos Acosta of Nipomo, Sylvia Grayham of Goode, VA, Albert Acosta of Houston, TX, Osbaldo and Oscar Acosta of Midland, TX, Irma Roberts of Nipomo, Lydia Acosta of El Paso, TX, Alma Acosta of Santa Maria and Jesse Acosta of El Paso, TX, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be on Sunday, February 25, 2018 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary. The recitation of the Holy Rosary will proceed at 6:00 p.m. The Reverend Monsignor Emigdio Herrera will celebrate the mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 26, 2018 at the St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 966 West Orchard in Santa Maria. Interment will follow in the Santa Maria Cemetery.
