Mary was a daughter of Robert, Sr. and Betsey Barr. She wed Daniel Knowles (1798-1853, son of William, Sr.) on 2 August 1820.

The couple's children were: William (born 5 November 1823 - husband of Sarah Brown); Elizabeth (born 8 November 1826 - wife of James Taylor); Robert (born 2 August 1829 - husband of Emma Rector); Mary Ann (born 4 August 1832 - wife of Miles Tyndall [also spelled Tindle/Tindal], then of Charles H. Jones); Eliza Jane (born 20 May 1835 - wife of Thomas T. James); Daniel L. (born 7 February 1838 - husband of Anna Owens); Julia Ann Maull (born 11 March 1840 - wife of Isaac B. Short); and Sarah Catharine (30 June 1843 - 9 June 1923 - wife of Isaac Newton Tyndall [also spelled Tindal]).
