John Michael Atkinson was born on October 10, 1945, in Kansas City, Missouri, and passed away on March 28, 2018, in Raytown, Missouri.
After graduating from Northeast High School in 1963, John served in the Army Reserves for 6 years as a Special Forces Infantryman. He had a lengthy career with the National Cash Register Company, servicing data processing systems, from 1967 to 2001. He had been a member of the Kansas City Baptist Temple since 1988 (now Graceway Church). He was involved in many ministries in Kansas City; Durango, Colorado, and Las Vegas, Nevada. He was a counselor, Deacon, ordained Pastor, a Chaplain with the Durango, Colorado, Police Dept. and was also involved in prison ministries. He was a licensed pilot and a skilled woodworker.

John was preceded in death by his father, Chester Atkinson; brother, Jay Dee Atkinson; and his beloved wife, Juliah. He is survived by his mother, Velma Atkinson; brother, James Atkinson (Kathey); sister, Vicki Karre; stepson, Troy Tobler; stepdaughter, Rhonda Tobler; granddaughter, Sienna Tobler; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at Graceway Church, 5460 Blue Ridge Cutoff, Kansas City, MO 64133, on Thursday, April 5th at 6 p.m., followed by service at 7 p.m. Burial at 10 a.m. on Friday, Floral Hills East, Lee’s Summit, MO.
