James Edmon Goforth went to be with his Savior on April 4, 2018. James was born in Gary, Ind., on Jan. 16, 1928, to Edward Reid Goforth and Mariam Josephine Bales Goforth.

James is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara (Crawley); and three children, Glenna (husband David Gibbs), Kerry (wife Cindy) and Douglas (wife Pamela). He also is survived by three grandchildren, Jennifer, Kayla and Alex; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Gene Bales Goforth (wife Frances).

He graduated from William A. Wirt High School in 1945 and was drafted into the Army Air Corps in 1946. After serving in the Philippine Islands James was honorably discharged and earned a degree in Agriculture at Purdue University in 1951. James and Barbara met and married in 1952.

James worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture Soil Conservation Service in New Mexico until 1970 before returning to the family farm in Dana. He enjoyed playing piano at eight area nursing homes with the Kitchen Band for 40 years and retired from farming in 2005. James was a lifelong follower of Christ and died with his family by his side.

According to his wishes, he will be cremated and interred at the Bales cemetery. The family will receive friends at Overpeck-Gooch Funeral Home in Dana, from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2018, followed by a memorial service. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to James' home church, Dana Methodist Church.
