ABRASH, Eleanor (nee Dyck) 4 May 1928 - 31 January 2009 Survived by husband Thomas; son Paul (Patty) and granddaughter Tahirah Abrash all of Toronto; step - children Donald (Trudy) Abrash, Carol (Jim Carr), and Barbara Landgraff; brother Harry Dyck of Nanaimo, B.C.; special grandchildren Sarah, Heather, Jennifer, Rob, Jamie, Brian, and Michael; sister-in-law Doris Tofflemire of Pickering. Predeceased by daughter Patricia (1959), two sisters and one brother, and sister-in-law Madeline Kent (2003). Eleanor was very active: nursing over 30 years in Winnipeg, Windsor, and at Detroit Children's Hospital; active YMCA member over 30 years teaching aqua-fitness and President 3 years; 10 year volunteer Windsor Police Victim Services; served on Board of Directors for Central United Church and Cencourse Housing Project; Certified Court Interpreter in Low German-working in Windsor, London and St. Thomas courts for Canada Immigration, Customs, and R.C.M.P. from 1980 to 2005. She enjoyed Square Dancing and Ballroom Dancing, reading, former Legion mixed darts, summers at Wildwood Trailer Park (Rondeau) 1984-2006 and travel - Banff, Florida, Hawaii, and Alaska, and volunteer with Mrs. Strasser's Grade 2 class at Southwood School. She will be missed by longtime close friend Beaulah Bellaire, niece Patricia (Kent) and husband Rev. Craig Drummond, brother-in-law Art Kent and Theresa, friends Bob and Kim Jackson, the Huszti families and Albert Mady family. In lieu of flowers, donations to Central United Church would be appreciated. Visitation Mon-day & Tuesday from 3-5 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral Wednesday 11:30 a.m. at Families First Funeral Home & Tribute Centre (519-969-5841), 3260 Dougall Ave. with Rev. Craig Drummond officiating.
