Frontier peace officer. Charlie Bassett was the first sheriff of Ford County, Kansas at Dodge City during its heyday. He was a contemporary and friend of famous gunfighters Wyatt Earp, Bat Masterson and Luke Short. Bassett was a member and sat for the famous photograph of the "Dodge City Peace Commission" of gunfighters in 1883.
