John Ralph “JR” Smith, 69, of Bonneau, SC, a disabled retired US Army veteran, died Monday in a local hospital.
His funeral will be 3:00 PM Friday afternoon, April 13, 2018, in the Russellville Christian Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery directed by DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 PM until the hour of service on Friday. Mr. Smith was born March 2, 1949 in Moncks Corner, SC, a son of John T. Smith and Alma Mitchum Smith. He was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was the former owner of JR’s Truck and Auto Sales and Tackle World. He was a graduate of St. Stephen High School and Attended Palmer College and Billy Graham Evangelism College. Mr. Smith enjoyed fishing, jet skiing, 4 wheeling, and vegetable gardening. He was a certified scuba diver and enjoyed traveling to St. Augustine, Fl. and camping.
Surviving are his wife, Nora Mary DeMauro Smith; a son, John David Smith of Bonneau Beach; a brother, Charlie Wayne Smith and his wife Brenda of Russellville; a niece, Jennifer Duke; two nephews, Charlie W. Smith, Jr. and his wife Daria and Michael Scharfenberg, Jr. and his wife Stephanie; great nieces and nephews Brody Smith, Gianna Smith, Tyler Duke, Isabella Iousa, and Michael Scharfenberg, III.
