Emma True dies in Laguna Beach

Word was received in Santa Cruz Monday morning of the death of Mrs. Emma C. True at Laguna Beach, where she accompanied her daughters, Mrs. A.W Kah and Mrs. Edna Cann last November, to be near her other daughter Alice Gentle, grand opera singer.(in private life Mrs. Proebstel)
Mrs. True was born in the east, Sept. 10 1844, and has lived in Santa Cruz for many years with her daughters who gave her their most devoted care. She was a widow of John J. True, who was a talented musician. It was from him that their distinguished daughter, Alice inherited her musical talent. Both Mr. and Mrs. True sang in church choirs. Mrs True has made her home with Mrs. Kah and Mrs. Cann on Walnut avenue, for many years, and their home was always the mecca of hosts of friends.
Fund of Stories
Mrs. True had a fund of most interesting stories to which her friends listened with much interest. Last year she furnished the writer with recipes for the food section of the Sentinel News, which were used during the Civil War days. Her father served in the Civil War and she highly prized gifts of her girlhood days which he had given her.
Mrs. True recounted a story of Lincoln's death and burial to the writer. She and her little sister, the late Mrs. Ida McClanahan of Santa Cruz watched with wide eyed interest of the crepe-draped train bearing Lincoln's body to Springfield. Lincoln's death brought a personal sorrow to her parents.
Her constant companion in Santa Cruz the past several years was "Barbara Fritchie" "Boo" for short, an English pug dog which her daughter Alice Gentle gave her. Mrs. True always held open hours on her birthday and many old time friends called to extend her good wishes and congratulations to her Telegrams, letters and quantities of flowers were sent from east and west to offer birthday greeting.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday. No details have been received but serves will probably be held in Laguna Beach.
