Joan was born in Mason City, Iowa on December 3, 1944 to her parents, Lester and Doyne Parrett Cox.
During her career, Joan worked as a Real Estate Agent for many years. She was very passionate about and dedicated to the Democratic Party; she enjoyed listening to the NPR show: Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!.
Joan loved animals and playing cards, Bridge and Samba, with her friends. She also enjoyed a glass or two of wine with her close friends on Sunday afternoons.
Joan married 1st Lieutenant Robert James Adams, whom she was widowed by during the Vietnam War.
She later wed her second husband, Steven L. McCoy.
Joan was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert "Bob" J. Adams, her parents, Lester and Doyne Cox and her dog, Ted. She is survived by her loving daughters, Erin McCoy, Amanda Johnson, and Caroline Pestka (Steve); step-son, Brian McCoy (Jennifer); grandchildren: Samuel, Phoebe and Hilary Johnson and Sabina, Ashi, Beatrice, Eleanor and Hannah Pestka; sisters, Judith Long and Janice Buddenbaum; many nieces, great nieces and nephews, extended family, very close friends, and friends; as well as her beloved dog, Bernie Sanders.
Family and friends are invited to an open house in celebration of Joan's life from 1pm until 4pm on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at her Britton Falls home at 12912 Merlot Lane, Fishers, IN 46037.
