On the 1860 US Census for Washington Co., TN, Rachael Nelson (16 yrs old) was hired help for George McCrary and his wife Catherine Smith, who had three known children: James (FAG #188318971), Hannah E. (b. abt 1856) and Elizabeth (FAG #38521250). It appears that Catherine past away and then George married Rachael. They had four known children: William Nelson (FAG #2970559), Mary B. (b. abt 1873), Joseph James (b. abt 1885), and Lee/Leon Bert (FAG #29511937).
Sometime prior to 1900, George and the family moved to Knoxville, TN and were living at 1624 Forest Av. George died 2 Feb 1900 in Knoxville but was buried "out of city" per his death record. Their son William Nelson who died Jan 1899 in Cuba was brought back for burial in the Knoxville National Cemetery in March 1900. The family remained in Knoxville for several years until Rachael, Joseph and Lee moved to Louisville, KY. Then she moved with Lee's family to New Albany, IN were she lived until her death.
