Muncie - Dr. Daryl B. Adrian, 83, passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital.
He was born on September 24, 1933 in Hutchinson, Kansas, the son of Cornelius J. and Susie Velma (Bartel) Adrian. Daryl attended Corn Bible Academy in Corn, Oklahoma before studying at Tabor College in Hillsboro Kansas. He met his wife Rosalie during his first year at Tabor and they were married on June 26, 1953. Dr. Adrian graduated from Tabor College with a Bachelor’s degree in Education, from The University of Kansas with a Master’s degree and received his Doctorate of English from The University of Missouri.
He worked for two years at the Menninger Clinic in Topeka, Kansas before moving with his family to Muncie in 1967. Daryl was an English Professor at Ball State University from 1967 until his retirement in 1999. From 1976 until 1985 he served as Department Chair of the English department.
Dr. Adrian was a long-time member of College Avenue United Methodist Church and served for many years with the National Council on Religion and Public Education. He was also a member of the Muncie Exchange Club.
In 1976 with the help of his entire family, he designed and built their family home from top to bottom. His granddaughter and her family now live there. After the construction of his family home, Dr. Adrian owned and operated DRA Construction and built many homes and apartments in Muncie.
Daryl is survived by three children, Dr. Dwayne Adrian (wife, Melisa), Muncie, Brad Adrian, Muncie, and Sandra Clare (husband, Brian), Tulsa, OK; five grandchildren, Dr. Christina Hill (husband, Shea), Muncie, Bryce Adrian, Cincinnati, OH, Dr. Derek Adrian (wife, Mandesa), Raleigh, NC, Cara Adrian, Durham, NC, and Gavyn Clare (wife, Maegan), Tulsa, OK; great-grandson, James Duke Hill; a sister, Ann Bartel (husband, Ken); and a sister-in-law, Rev. Wilma Adrian.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Rosalie Adrian 41 days ago; and a brother, Rev. Cycil Adrian.
Friends and family may call at College Avenue United Methodist Church, 1968 W. Main Street, Muncie, IN, from 10:00 am until service time at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, June 6, 2017.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 pm Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at College Avenue United Methodist Church, 1968 W. Main Street, Muncie, with Pastor Lisa Schubert Nowling officiating.
