Helen L. Mayo Dudley of Newark, NJ, formerly of Montclair, NJ, passed away on Dec. 24, 2014, at the age of 95. Funeral services will be on Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at 10:00 Am at Philemon Baptist Church, 246 Shepherd Ave, Newark. Interment will be at Rosedale Cemetery in Montclair. Visitation is Sunday, Jan 4, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at the church. Cotton Funeral Service handled the arrangements.

Helen was born in Cumberland County, Va. She was the eldest of nine children. Her parents were the late Junious and Victoria Flippen Warren. Mrs. Dudley was a devout Christian who worked tirelessly in the ministries of her church and community. She was especially devoted to the missionary society of her church, where she helped to develop programs for feeding the hungry, clothing the poor, and administering to the needs of the youth of the community.

Mrs. Dudley was an employee of Ohrbach's department store for many years. A trailblazer, she was the first employee of color hired to work in the buyer's department and as a retail clerk.

Mrs. Dudley is survived by her devoted children, Ethel Mayo Booker (Thomas Jr.), Abdul-Qawiyy Muhammad, a.k.a. Randolph Mayo Jr. (Beverly), Helen Virginia Mayo LaSure (Raymond); grandson, Rahman LaSure; great-granddaughter, Ruby LaSure; sisters, Phyllis Landis and Janie Jackson (Roland); brothers, Henry (Thelma) and Raymond (Dorothy) Warren; her adopted daughter, Alphair Murph, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
