Mr. Cannie M. Wilkes, age 73, Route 5, Lyons, died Wednesday afternoon in Meadows Memorial Hospital in Vidalia following a brief illness.

Mr. Wilkes was a lifelong resident of Toombs County and was a retired carpenter. He was the son of the late Harley and Minnie Sapp Wilkes, and he was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church of Lyons.

Mr. Wilkes is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lois O. Wilkes, Lyons; two daughters, Mrs. Shirley Smith, Mrs. Peggy Hart, Vidalia; one brother, Harley Wilkes, Lyons; two sisters, Mrs. Ila Mae Blue and Mrs. Evelyn Gibson, Lyons; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Cannie M. Wilkes were held Friday afternoon, November 13, 1992 at 3:00 from the Ronnie L. Stewart Funeral Service Chapel of Vidalia with the Rev. Aaron Reaves and the Rev. C.V. Easterlin officiating. Interment was in the Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers were Robert Padgett, Billy NeeSmith, Danny Mosley, Harrel Wiggins, Matt Williams, and Donnie Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Monty Usher, Roy Stewart, Bobby Bass, Mark Shuman, B.T. Tapley, Paul Driskell, Gene Wiggins, Venson Gordon, Ezra Aaron, W.L. Findley, Bernard Harden and Hugh NeeSmith. Ronnie L. Stewart Funeral Service of Vidalia was in charge of funeral arrangements.
