John Edward's Story
John Edward Lowther, Jr., age 45, passed unexpectedly at his home in Newbury on Sunday evening, September 17, 2017.
Born in Newburyport, December 17, 1971, he was the son of John E. Lowther, Sr. and the late Eleanor M. (Bailey) Lowther, who died on August 9, 1997, and attended Newburyport public schools.
For the past years he worked as a farm hand at the Oak Valley Farm in Newbury doing whatever jobs needed to be done, always to the best of his ability. With his passion for animals, it gave him great satisfaction to finish his day’s work by making sure that all the animals were set for the night.
John had a heart of gold and was an extremely caring individual. He would give the shirt off his back or his last nickel, knowing it would make someone feel better.
In addition to his father, John Sr., of Newburyport, he is survived by his five sisters, Jeanne Lane, Sharon Dow, Patricia O’Donnell, Donna Nida and Kathleen Lowther; along with several generations of nieces and nephews; many cousins, including Shannon Sachetti and her family, with whom he lived several years; many dear friends and extended family members. He was also predeceased by his fiancee, Jenny Tirone; his nephew, John Michael Lowther; and his two sisters, Susan Allen West and Barbara Lowther.
Visiting hours at the Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport will be Thursday, September 21, 2017, from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, September 22, 2017, at 11 a.m. at People’s United Methodist Street, 64 Purchase Street, Newburyport. Burial at Highland Cemetery, Newburyport will be private for the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the John E. Lowther, Jr. Memorial Fund, c/o Newburyport Five Cents Savings Bank, 63 State Street, Newburyport, MA 01950.
