On November 25, 2015, Elizabeth C. Hendon, of Washington, DC, passed away after a year-long battle with cancer.
She was the beloved mother of Ann E. Hendon and John H. Hendon and sister of Barbara Knode and Cynthia Belechak.
She was born in Shreveport, LA, on October 1, 1937, to Elizabeth Ann Vrabel Belechak and Col. John Belechak (USAF, Ret).
She was formerly married to Harold E. Hendon, Jr. (deceased), 27 years.
A long-time resident of Northwest Washington, she was an active member and former employee of Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church. In her earlier career, she worked for the U.S. Department of Commerce, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and the National Presbyterian Church.
She sang in the choir and was a member of the flower committee, as well as a deacon and elder. An active artist and crafter, she made many banners, as well as flower arrangements not only for her church, but friends, family, and special occasions. She was known for making "dioramas," miniature rooms recreating friends'' businesses and homes.
A memorial service will be held at Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church on December 12, 10 a.m. and a reception follows at the Church. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church, Washington, DC or Holy Cross Hospice, Silver Spring, MD.
