Dr. Herbert Duane Adams was born on September 13, 1934 at Doss Ranch in Ringgold County, Texas. His parents were Herbert Adams and Vanice Tonroy Adams.
He attended Burkburnett High School and received his bachelor’s degree in physics from the University of Texas at Austin and a master’s degree from Southern Methodist University. He received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.
He started work as a flight engineer at Convair in Fort Worth and worked for many years as an engineer at Texas Instruments in Richardson, TX. Later he moved to Santa Barbara, CA to work as an executive for Santa Barbara Research Center, a subsidiary of Hughes Aircraft. He ended his corporate career as a vice-president at Honeywell in Richardson, TX.
He started a second career as a farmer and rancher in his late 50’s when he bought land in Ladonia, Texas.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty Lou Graham Adams and by his sons, Wesley Owen Adams and his wife Kelly of Ladonia, Texas and Herbert Lee Adams of Granna, Sweden and by his daughters, Donna Gayle Adams Bradley and her husband Mitch of Makawao, Hawaii and Susan Kay Adams LaFollett and her husband Charles of Van Alstyne, Texas. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Arwen Meister, Mirabel Bradley, Kajsa Adams, Tatiana Bradley, Kimo Adams, Darden Adams, Caroline LaFollett, Mindalena Adams, Douglas LaFollett, Alicia Adams and Tulwen Adams.
He is also survived by his sister Meta Adams and his sister-in-law Robbie Adams, both of Petrolia, Texas. He is predeceased by his brothers: Owen Twain Adams and Ben Chaffin.
