Note: This man was the child of Rev. and Mrs. Abernethy and signed his name as J. C. Abernethy during the American Civil War. However, it appears that he did not mind that his surname was often misspelled as Abernathy. His gravestone is incorrectly engraved with the surname, "Abernathy., His wife's gravestone is correctly engraved as "Abernethy."
