Porterfield - Marjorie Schmidt-Zajdel, age 61, a Porterfield resident, formerly of New Holstein and Valders, died early Monday morning, April 23, 2018 at her residence surrounded by her family.
She was born on August 11, 1956 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Gordon and Monica (Meidl) Schmidt. Maggie graduated from Valders High School, Class of 1974. She then furthered her education by receiving an Associate's Degree from Moraine Park Technical College and her Bachelor's and Masters of Engineering and her Ph. D in May of 2017 in International Leadership Studies from Marian University. On May 30, 2004 she married Robert Zajdel in Marinette. Maggie was employed at several different companies including Tecumseh Products, Kohler Company, Georgia Pacific and Marinette Marine. She enjoyed gardening and taking care of her chickens. Maggie liked cooking and cutting lawn at the pond where she enjoyed spending time. She also loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a lover of nature.
Survivors include her husband: Robert; one daughter and son-in-law: Leah and Joe Brenner; one son: Jaredd Barbeau; three grandchildren: Ally, Joseph and Sophia; her mother-in-law: Virgina Zajdel; nine siblings: Gloria (John) Reis, Mary Isaacson, Susan (Thomas) Phillip, Brenda (Keith) Johnson, Julie (Guy) Dehne, Janet (Steve) Kornely, Ann (Tim) Klein, John Schmidt, Joe (Doreen) Schmidt; and three sisters-in-law: Kathy Lorenz, Chris (David) Young and Diana Rollins. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was also preceded in death by a son: Joshua Barbeau; her step-father: Harold Pivonka; her father-in-law: Edward Zajdel; one brother: Gordon; two nephews: Paul Johnson and Joe Schmidt; and two brothers-in-law: James Mankins and Glenn Isaacson.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 27, 2018 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Clarks Mills. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Doug LeCaptain with burial to follow at St. Mary Catholic Church Cemetery, Clarks Mills.
