Unidentified Newscipping - 1875
TIFFT.--Caleb Tifft died in Sandy Creek, Oswego Co., New York, December 2, 1875, aged 84 years, 7 months and __ days. He was the son of Caleb Tifft who came to this State about eighty years ago. He was the last of nine children, __sons and one daughter. The 12th of September 1816, he was united in marriage to Jane A. (Dunlap, by whom he had eight children, four sons, and four daughters: three of whom were at his funeral. His wife died some nine years since. They were both members of the Methodist Episcopal church for a great number of years. His last sickness was short; about the 20th of November he was taken quite _______. On the 26th he told his physicians that this would be his last sickness; talked of the future and said he was not afraid to die, and that he was going home. To his relatives he said, I want you to meet me in heaven, and quoted several passages of Scripture appropriate for the sad occasion. He prayed earnestly for the blessing of God to rest upon his relatives, and remembered with prayerful affection all his grandchildren (about twenty in all) saying God bless and save them. Thus passed away one of the old landmarks who had lived to see the wilderness give place to cultivated fields and numerous blessings both temporal and spiritual crowned his long life. May all his kindred be well prepared for an unbroken reunion where the people never die.
