Janice Kay Brown Young, age 84, beloved wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma, passed away April 24, 2018 in Orem, Utah. She was born October 29, 1933 in Fort Thomas, Arizona to Jennie Heaton and Lorenzo John Brown III, one of seven children. She was raised in Moccasin, Arizona, attending school and graduating from Fredonia High School. She also attended LDS Business College. She married Jackie Ray Young on December 3, 1954. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in May of 1956, and spent 64 years together.
Janice enjoyed crocheting afghans and made one for each of her grandchildren. She also enjoyed cross-stitching and loved to cook. She also enjoyed camping with her husband, and were members of the Good Sams Club, Olympus Seagulls Chapter. They served nine years on the state staff for the Club where they made lifelong friends.
Janice was a steadfast member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved the Lord and served faithfully in many church callings, including Relief Society, Primary, and Young Women. She and Jack served a mission together in the Plattville, Wisconsin from Nov. of 1985 to Nov. of 1986. They were then assigned to work in the Genealogy Library at the Utah State Prison for 5 years, followed by working at the Jordan River Temple. Her final church calling was as a door greeter at Sacrament Meeting where she loved greeting the little children and receiving hugs from them.
Survivors include her loving husband Jack Young; two brothers Rolin Brown and Stan Brown; two sisters Winna Kalauli and Lurana Mosdell; children Jill (Steve) Petersen, Joyce (Brad, deceased) Castillo, Ed (Becky) Young, Gary (Carrie) Young, Jana (Boyd) Hawkes, Judy (John) Russell, and Julie (Larry) Baker; 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Ren, sister Marilyn, and grandson Christian.
Viewings will be held Sunday, April 29 from 6 to 8 pm at LDS Stake Center, 4510 West 11800 South, Riverton, Utah, and Monday 9:30 to 10:30 am with services at 11:00 am at the Stake Center above. Burial will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy, Ut. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Larkin Mortuary in SLC with Mosdell Mortuary assisting.
