Freda Ann Bailey Abell, 91, of Albany, GA, passed away Friday, April 27, 2017 at Wynfield Park Health and Rehabilitation. Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 11:00 am at Mathews Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.
Born in Roanoke, VA, to the late Reed and Rosa Bailey, Freda was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and recently great grandmother. She was full of grace and had a quiet Christian spirit. She started each morning referring to this saying "Good Morning, This is God! I will be handling all your problems today. I will not need your help. So, have a good day."
She has resided in Albany since 1959. Freda was first employed with Western Union during World War II in Columbus, GA. For the remainder of her career, she worked as an office manager for insurance companies in both Columbus and Albany until she retired at 65. She also volunteered as a Cub Scout den leader, nursing aid at Northside Elementary School, parent volunteer for many, many school activities and clubs, and she was an avid fan of youth league baseball, golf, and dance recitals.
She was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church and the Agape Sunday School Class.
In addition to her parents, Freda was preceded in death by three brothers Bob Bailey, George Bailey, and Jack Bailey, her stepmother Lila Bailey, and a stepbrother Roy Hudgins.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at Mathews Funeral Home.
