Gordon passed away peacefully at St. Luke's Hospital in Boise on Friday, October 31, 2014 at about 1:10 AM. He is survived by his brother, William J. Chester; and cousins, Jacqueline Smith, Jamie Prestel, Bethel Kowalkowski and their families. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Albert Chester and his mother, Dorothy Dinah Minger Chester.

Gordon was born in Boise, Idaho and graduated from Boise High School in 1957. He was awarded the Alexander Hamilton Foundation Scholarship and the Good Citizen Medal of the Sons of the American Revolution in Philadelphia, PA and Washington, D.C.

Gordon graduated from the University of Idaho in 1961 with a bachelor's degree in business administration and political science. While at the university, he was elected national Royal King of the Intercollegiate Knights and established several new chapters in various states across the nation. He also was awarded the Silver Lance honorary for outstanding leadership. He was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity.

Gordon was chamber manager for Ephrata, WA and Wenatchee, WA, moved to Seattle in 1973 and worked as a career counselor for J. Fredrick Marci Company and later as a real estate salesman for Wallace and Wheeler. He moved back to Boise in 1988 to work at Union Farm and Garden where he became a certified horticulturist. Later he worked at ERA West Wind Real Estate until his retirement.

Gordon loved gardening all of his life. As a child, he raised and propagated iris. After his retirement he raised orchids and was an active member of the Treasure Valley Orchid Society. Gordon had over 30 orchids that he raised in his room at the assisted living facility where he resided until his death. He kept blooming orchids in the public and communal spaces in the facility for his fellow residents to enjoy.

Gordon would say we would be amiss if not to include here that he is also survived by his loving 18 pound cat, Bubba. Bubba has a new home with a loving family.

Gordon was a reserved and brilliant man that touched the hearts and minds of all who met him. He will be missed.

There will be a memorial service for Gordon at Saint Michael's Cathedral, 518 N. 8th St, Boise, ID at 10:30 AM on April 25, 2015.
