Gerald Paul "Jerry" Alband, age 74. of Milford Center, Ohio, passed away Monday, April 30, 2018 at The Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital from complications following bladder cancer. A draftsman with Baltimore Gas and Electric Company, he retired from The Calvert Cliffs nuclear power plant in Lusby, Maryland. During his retirement, he and his wife moved to be close to his family in Marysville where he worked as a resident monitor at West Central Community Correctional Facility. A veteran of the United States Navy, he served in Vietnam from 1964 to 1968 and was stationed on the USS Oxford in Japan and the Philippines. He was a WWII mechanized warfare buff. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be remembered for always putting his family first, putting others' needs and wants before his own, and he cherished quality time with them. A gentle and kind-hearted soul, he treated everyone like a friend. Above all, he had a deep love for Jesus and was a member of Radiant Life Church in Dublin.
He was born May 26, 1943, in Utica, Michigan to the late Charles H. and Jennie P. Austin Alband. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles T. Alband. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rosemary Graham Alband, whom he married October 24, 1969 in Royal Oak, Michigan. She was by his side, as his caretaker and angel, until the very end. He is also survived by his son, Michael (Suzanne Alband) Alband of Powell; his daughter, Heather Ward (Adam Ward) of Plain City; four grandchildren, Adam "AJ" (Gabrielle) Ward, Jordan Ward, Gabriella Alband and Cherish Ward; his sister, Arlene Ping of Somerset, Kentucky; two sisters-in-law. Darlene DiCato and Anita Graham; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives, including Gladys "Punk" Jebing, Charles Alband, Roy Alband, James "Jimmer" Alband, Paul Alband, Tom Ping, Clara Jean Holder and Mary Geraldine Carson.
The family will receive friends 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2018 at Radiant Life Church, 7100 Post Road, Dublin, Ohio 43016 where funeral services will also be held at 10 a.m. Saturday. Pastors David Gross and Dennis Griffin will officiate. The family welcomes you to join them at graveside services, with full military honors, held 10 a.m. Monday, May 7, 2018 at Oakdale Cemetery in Marysville, Ohio.
