Richard Lyn "Dick" Freeman, of Edmond, OK, passed away at age 84 April 29, 2018, in Oklahoma City. Dick was born on April 17, 1934, at Fort Benning, GA, the second child of Hurshell T. "Tom" and Fannie Wiggins Freeman. He grew up in Denver, CO and Swain County, NC. Dick earned his college degree and teaching certificate from Western Carolina College in Cullowhee, NC and was a school teacher briefly before joining the U.S. Air Force. He served his military enlistment at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City. It was there he met Pattie Jane Meadows, and they were married in 1960 at First Christian Church in Oklahoma City. Also, in 1960, Dick began his career working for IBM and served there as a Senior Systems Engineer until he retired in 1994. Dick logged many, many volunteer hours for churches and charities. He was a board member of Habitat for Humanity and co-founder of Turning Point Ministries of Edmond. Dick was a carpenter, marathon runner, water and snow skier, and scuba diver. He loved Western movies and reading, and he had an insatiable sweet tooth. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Alvin C. "Joe" Freeman. Dick is survived by his wife, Pattie; his sisters, Helen Orr and Carol Livingston, and their husbands Dr. Robert A. Orr and David Livingston; his daughter, Laura Catlett and her husband David Clampitt; sons, Keith Freeman and Douglas Freeman and his wife Natalie; grandchildren, Kasey and Sarah Catlett and Victoria Hawkins, Nathaniel, Alexandra, Gabriel, Matthew and Marisa Freeman, David and Daniel Clampitt; six great-grandchildren; many beloved nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Friends and family are welcome to attend the Celebration of Life Service Monday, May 14 at 10 a.m. at Christ Community Church, 915 E. 33rd Street, Edmond, OK 73013.
