Verna I. Shaw

Verna I. Shaw, 78, 3534 Huntingdon Furnace Road, Tyrone, died unexpectedly at Geisinger Health System, Danville. She was born in Canan Station, daughter of the late Frederick F. and Annie (Claycomb) Glunt. She married Wayne E. Shaw Jan. 15, 1948, in Frostburg, Md. He preceded her in death in 1990.
Surviving are four daughters: Sally and her husband, Earl David Detwiler, of Huntingdon, Cynthia and her husband, Jeffery Peterson, of Spruce Creek, Sandy and her husband, Kevin Detwiler, of Tyrone and Annette and her husband, John Johnston, of Revloc; a son, Dennis Wayne and his wife, Deborah Shaw, of Altoona; six grandchildren: Kevin Jr. and Rebekah Detwiler, Jerry Jr. and Joshua McCahan, Lesli and Brandon Shaw; three great-grandchildren: Mya and Colleen McCahan and Noah Detwiler; five sisters: Vera Shaffer and Doris Robertson of Hollidaysburg, Sylvia Ward of St. Peters, Miss., Beulah "Boots" Vaughn of Altoona and Ruby Houck of Honey Brook, Pa.; and two brothers: Harold Glunt of Niles, Ohio, and Ralph Glunt of Siloam Springs, Ark.
She was preceded in death by two sisters: Kathryn Marketta and Clara Fern Putt; and two brothers: Paul and Dale Glunt.
Verna attended Tyrone Christian Missionary Alliance Church. She worked at GTE Sylvania, Altoona, and Big Yank, Tyrone.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at Cox Funeral Home in Warriors Mark and 10 until the time of the service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Tyrone Christian Missionary Alliance Church, 2103 Adams Ave., Tyrone, the Rev. Tim Miller officiating. Burial will be at Blair Memorial Park.
