John's last name is recorded as Cohler, but also has a notation of the Kohler spelling.

Easton Daily Express July 17, 1909 p. 3

John M. Kohler, a veteran of the Civil War, died at 7:10 last evening at his home, No. 646 Mauch Chunk St., aged 64 years. He had been ill the past five weeks with Bright's disease.

Mr. Kohler was a native of Germany. He came to America in 1861 and the same year enlisted in the Union Army. He served four years and three months in Company A, 47th Regiment, PA Volunteers.

Deceased was blind for a number of years.

Besides his wife, Rebecca Kohler, there survive one son, of this place; a daughter, of Philadelphia; two sisters, one of Shenandoah, one of Easton; and three brothers, all residents of this city.
