Silas W. Wheaton joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1844. He was ordained an elder. He was baptized and confirmed a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on 25 August 1861 at Royalton, Berrien, Michigan, by James Blakeslee.

1850 Census: Silas is living in Elmira, Chemung, New York and is a farmer. Also is the household are William 31; Olive 23; Beda 28; G W (George Washington) 12; William O 10 and R P(Rufus Perry) 8.

1880 Census shows Silas and Beda were married and living in Richmond Township, Osceola County, Michigan with their daughter, Minnie 14 (other info indicates that Silas & Beda raised Minnie DeVoe). Silas was a day laborer.
