John Arthur Merrick is the youngest child and only son of seven children; six sisters!

Grandfather: John Arthur Merrick's parents/ Father: Peter Merrick and Mother: Sarah Clarke both from Galway, Ireland who met and married in Boston, MA.

Military:
John A Merrick enlisted and served in the US Army when he was 19 years 8 months on 23 June 1908, discharged 19 January 1911 at Ft. McDowell, CA. Remarks: Pvt. Excellent

1910 US Federal Census: Military and Naval Forces, Philippines, Camp Overton, Mindanao, District 0168, age 21. Private, l troop, 2nd Cavalry. Grandfather John Merrick was an excellent horseman, could ride multiple horses at once, fancy acts on a horse, and dreamt of
being in the Movies due to his expertise while in the Cavalry, according to my mother and aunts.

US Army, 9 February 1911 until discharged 8 Feb 1914 at Texas City, TX. Remarks: Excellent service, Corporal, very good. Age 22 years 9 months.

US WW I Draft Registration Card: 5 June 1917 [29 years old], occupation: Laborer working at Hunt Skiller Iron Foundry in So. Boston, married with 2 children.

Marriage: 21 October 1914 in Burlington, Chittenden, Vermont, USA.

My mother: Anna Elizabeth born 11 June 1922. Note: Peter is deceased.

4 Apr 1930 Census: John Arthur, Marie, Arthur, Marie, Estella, and Anna.
Occupation: Laborer and Grandmother was employed in a shop. According to my mother
and aunts, grandmother always worked creating clothing, quilts, crotched and knitting
pieces, you name it... she worked endlessly. NOTE: Grandmother moved away from Chicago in 1914 and returned by 1930.

11 Apr 1940 Census: John, Marie, Marie, Stella and Anna were living together. Arthur must
My mother and aunts talked about grandfather often not being employed and grandmother
worked endlessly to support the family. She died later in the year, 1 December 1940.
John moved in with Arthur until he died.

Together they had five children.
