Gladys P. (Griest) Hoopes, 95, formerly of Lee Avenue, Millersville and Hilton Drive, Lancaster, died Friday morning, May 4, 2018 at Hamilton Arms Center. She was the wife of the late Melvin Franklin Hoopes, who died November 23, 1961.

She had worked twenty-nine years at the former Slaymaker Lock, Lancaster.

Born October 21, 1922, in Pilottown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Harvey C. and J. Pearl (Ritchie) Griest. A Lutheran, she was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Lancaster. Her hobbies included shopping, visiting relatives and traveling to new places. She also enjoyed dining out.

She is survived by her son; Thomas L. Hoopes, married to Shethra "Sheffe" Jones-Hoopes, of Lancaster; three grandchildren; Lily S. DiPietro, Elizabeth L. Hoopes & Ellen L. Hoopes; two siblings; Shirley Benner, of Willow Street and Willis Griest, married to Teresa, of Lancaster and four sisters-in-law; Edith (the late Leon) Griest, Emma (the late Norman) Griest, Janet (the late Harold) Griest and Jean (the late Melvin) Griest.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Andrew T. Scheid Funeral Home, 320 Blue Rock Road, Route 999, Millersville, PA 17551 on Friday afternoon, May 11, 2018 at 3 p.m. (Viewing 2-3 p.m.). Interment will be held in the Conestoga Memorial Park, Lancaster, PA. Flowers are welcome.
