Doy Ray Clifton
1935 - 2000

Doy Ray Clifton was born on February 6, 1935. His life on Earth was completed and he went to be with the Lord on November 21 after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Doy of Rowlett will be remembered for the wonderful loving person he was, his sense of humor and his warm regard for family and friends whose lives he touched both personally and professionally.

During his school days, Doy was known for his favorite game, basketball, and was awarded a full basketball scholarship to Southeastern Oklahoma University. He spent two years in the United States Army, where he was honorably discharged in 1960. For 40 years Doy was with Clifton Carpets, Inc., one of the first speciality carpet stores in Dallas, and was considered a valued carpet professional in the metroplex area. Most meaningful of all, God had a prior claim on Doy’s life. In his early teens, Doy publicly professed his belief in Jesus Christ as Saviour and in June of 1965, he realized the need and committed himself and his life totally to Christ as Lord. He was a member of Lake Pointe Baptist Church in Rockwall and James L. Burgess Lodge #1305 in Dallas. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his present wife, Suzanne Stubbs Clifton; daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Keith Mitchell; granddaughters, Sarah and Rebecca Mitchell; son-in-law, Freddie Davis; grandchildren, Lauren and Carlton Davis; four step-children and families, Jim and Cathey Ondrusek; step-grandsons, Chad and Nathan Ondrusek; step-son, Tim Ondrusek; step- daughter, Mindy Ondrusek Houston; step-granddaughters, Chelsey and Shelbey Houston; step-son Mike Ondrusek; one sister, Odessa Turner; six brothers and their wives, Jim and Jean Clifton, Raymond and Barbara Clifton, B.W. and Pat Clifton, Wayne and Kay Clifton, Fred and Janie Clifton. Bobby and Barbara Clifton; mother-in-law, Sammie Stubbs Coady; brothers and sisters-in-law, Nancy Otts, Harry Stubbs, Tom and Vickie Stubbs; life-long friend, Sue Martin; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; and many friends and associates, including his canine companion “Stubbs.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Robert Clifton of Rains County; his beloved wife and mother of his children, Glenda Otts Clifton; daughter, Jana Davis; brothers, Howard and wife Rose Clifton, Ollie Ray Clifton, J.R. Clifton, and Joe Clifton,; and brother-in-law, Melvin Turner.

Services were held at Rest Haven Funeral Home in Rowlett at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 25, with Timothy Warren of Lake Pointe Baptist Church officiating.

Interment followed in Grove Hill Cemetery, Dallas. Pallbearers were neighbors and friends, Tom Dahl. James Key, David Hampton. Gary Shipley, Don Maxfield and Steve Moore, accompanied by Eagle Scouts Nathan and Scott Moore.

At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Doy’s memory to The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School for Cancer Research, 5323 Harry Hines Bivd., Dallas, TX 75235 or to the charity of your choice.
