Noland V. Avery, 93, of Winchester, formerly of Roanoke, died Monday, April 9, 2007 at Winchester Medical Center. Mr. Avery was born November 14, 1913, in Danville, Va., a son of the late Isaac Walter and Laura Ida Jackson Avery. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Herman W. and Fred J. Avery. Mr. Avery married Mildred Wheeler Brooks February 4, 1939, in Roanoke, Va. He served in the US Army during World War II as a Master Sergeant. He was a longtime employee of Jefferson Electric Company and retired as company president. Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Mildred Brooks Avery; daughter, Donna A. Carroll and husband Lester (Chuck); grandchildren, Jennifer Carroll and Kevin Carroll, all of Winchester. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 5216, Glen Allen, Va. 23058-5216. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Friday at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road. A graveside service will be conducted 3 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2007 in Sherwood Memorial Park. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home & Crematory, 366-0707.
