James Corbin was born Oct 17, 1818 in Huntingdon PA. to Joshua Corbin and Margaret (Kelley) Corbin. His siblings included : Elijah Kelley Corbin, Hester, Charlotte, William, Hampson, Martha, Sarah, Mary Ann, Joshua C., and Americus Vespucius Corbin.

He married Lucinda McWhorter on Feb. 18, 1840. To this union was born : Joshua McWhorter Corbin, John Anderson, Louisa, James M., Mahala, Hampson M., Charlotte M. and Nettie A. Corbin.

James and Lucinda began their lives together in Effingham, Illinois, where their first three children were born. By 1847, the family moved to Boone Iowa, where the rest of their children were born.

Between August of 1870 and March of 1875, they moved to Beaver, Cowley County Kansas. In the 1875 Census, Hampson and Nettie are the only children still living at home.
James was a hard working farmer through out his life time, and the father of 8 children. After James' death, Lucinda lived with their son, James M. and his family in Oxford Kansas, until 1905 when all of them moved to Pasadena California, and she died the following year.
