Robert Lee Sawyer was born on March 3, 1870 in Talladega, Talladega County, Alabama, the son of Benjamin Franklin Sawyer (1833–1901) and Charlotte Simmons (Armbrester) Sawyer (1838–1920).
He was married to Jennie B Foster (1875–1960), the daughter of Charles Edward Foster and Anna (Palmer) Foster.
A district manager for a gasoline & oil company and living at 1811 Acklen Avenue in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee, Robert was 76 years old and married when he died at home of an abdominal hemorrhage on July 6, 1946. Burial was two days later in Woodlawn Cemetery, Nashville.
