Susan Conner and Sallie Conner, both buried at Hollywood Cemetery, were his sisters. They were listed as living next door to him, his wife Mary Ann Lay Conner, and their five children in the 1900 Harris County census. Mary's brother August Lay, a farm laborer, also lived with the Conner family in 1900. Thomas Lay lived there, too, and was listed as a helper on the farm.

Edward Conner married Mary Ann Lay in Calhoun County, Mississippi. Mary's parents were Vincent Lay and Polly Flowers. Vincent Lay's first wife was Sarah "Sallie" Fox.
