Jo Ann A. Asciutto, beloved mother, sister, aunt, mother-in-law and grandmother, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 13, 2018. Jo Ann was born on Feb. 7, 1946, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Isabella Santomauro and Daniel Basileo. She was the first in her family to attend college, graduating from St. Joseph's College with a master's degree from Fordham. She was the beloved mother of Robert Asciutto, mother-in-law of Kara Asciutto, and cherished grandmother ("Grandma Emma") of Christian and Ryan Asciutto. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in law, Anthony and Josephine Basileo, nephew and niece, Daniel and Eleanora Basileo, and grand-nephews, James and Matthew Basileo. Jo Ann was a passionate and gifted educator for close to 40 years, serving most recently as principal at Gateway Academy. She was a devout Christian and gave tirelessly to family, friends and Gateway Church in Tottenville, where she resided for the past 32 years. Visitation is at Hanley Funeral Home on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral is from the funeral home on Thursday at 8 a.m., with service at Gateway Church at 9:30 a.m. Interment to follow.
