Russell I. Beaty, the son of George J. and Mildred (Dillie) Beaty, was in Dawson Township in Greene County, Iowa near Paton.
He received his education in country schools and graduated from Paton High School in 1944.
Following his education, Russ served in the Pacific Theater with the United States Army during World War II. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home and went to work for John McGuire on a road building crew.
While building roads near Thompson, Iowa, he met his future wife, Gladys. The couple was united in marriage on March 9, 1957 and made their home at Humboldt where Russ established General Grading Company. The couple owned and operated the company until their retirement in 1988.
Russ was an avid reader, and in his retirement enjoyed golfing and traveling with Gladys. He was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church and a long time Iowa State Basketball Season Ticket holder. Russ was proud of his military service and a highlight of his later years was his participation in a Brushy Creek Honor Flight.
