"Lib” was born in Matthews to Jesse & Ethel Hartis. She graduated from Matthews High School in 1949 and further attended business college. She married Curtis Elmore Lemmond on July 12, 1953. They were members of Antioch UMC, where they had met, until Curtis’s death in 1991.

“Lib” continued to be a cornerstone at Antioch serving in multiple capacities and provided a lifetime of experience. Her passion for singing was a constant in the Antioch Church Choir in her graceful soprano voice. She worked many years at Matthews Lumber Company as a bookkeeper and later became a substitute mail carrier for Matthews Post Office.

Many folks throughout the community have been honored to receive “Lib’s” beautifully crocheted angel ornaments that were freely given on a whim.

“Lib” and Curtis (deceased) had four daughters, Lynn Hubbard and husband Jeff, Rhonda Robinson and husband Stacie, Laura DeAngelo and husband Dan, Phyllis Steen and husband Ricky.

Six siblings include Raeford Hartis (Ann) both deceased, Madison Hartis (Anna Margaret, deceased), LaMelle Hagerty (Edward, deceased), Jerry Hartis (Dot), Henry Hartis (Vivian), and Teressa Ozment (Jay).

Nine grandchildren, Elizabeth Meachum, Stephen Mull, Sonny Hubbard, Curtis Hubbard, Matt Steen, Hannah Robinson, Kevin DeAngelo, Dylan Steen, and Jesse Robinson.Nine Great Grandchildren and Eight Great Great Grandchildren.

Service:Antioch United Methodist Church, 3205 Antioch Church Road, Matthews, NC (entrance is on Forest Lawn Dr.) The Reverend Greg Collins will officiate.

Interment:Forest Lawn East Cemetery.
