Betty Bartlett Davis was born to the late James Donald and Addie Lou Roop Bartlett. Her grandparents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel M. Bartlett and the late Mr. and Mrs. George W. Roop of Bowdon, Georgia. She was married to Dr. John W. Davis, a professor of history, from 1959 to 1976.

Betty graduated from Bowdon High School in 1943. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from what was at the time Georgia State College for Women (now Georgia College and State University at Milledgeville). In 1952 she graduated with a Master of Arts degree from The Emory University Division of Librarianship.

Mrs. Davis enjoyed a long career as an academic librarian, having worked and Peabody Lab School at Georgia College in Milledgeville, Florida State University, Clemson University, University of Wisconsin, Madison, Virginia Polytechnic University, Salem College, and Kansas State University. She retired as Associate Dean of Technical Services in 1994 from Indiana State University.

Family, friends, and travel were important to her always. She is survived by her niece, Jane Wigley Brown, and several cousins. She was listed in “Who’s Who of American Women.”

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Rainwater Funeral Home. Afterwards, she will be interred at Bowdon City Cemetery.
