His funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 21, at Gibson City United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Tennyson officiating. Burial will be in Drummer Township Cemetery, Gibson City. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City, with a Masonic service at 8 p.m.
Mr. Bennett was born Apr. 30, 1934, in Gibson City, a son of Leonard Y. and Clarice Foley Bennett. He was first married to Ruby Marie Rutledge. She died in 1985. He then married Joyce Littell. She survives in Gibson City.
Also surviving are a son, James (Teena) Bennett of Bloomington and their two children, Amie (Chris) Welch of Normal and Holly (Kyle) Lohrstorfer of Bloomington; and two stepsons, Terry (Susan) Littell of Lisle and their children, Terry Jr. Zack and Lizzy Littell, and Todd (Uyen) Littell of Gibson City and their children, Phillip and Timmy.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard L., and sister, Dorothy Rudolph. Richard was a lifetime farmer in the Gibson City area and worked part time for the Department of Natural Resources.
He was a member of Gibson City United Methodist Church, a 50-year member and past master of the Gibson Masonic Lodge and the Bloomington Consistory.
