Edwin Donald Howard (known to all as Don or Uncle Don) passed away on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at the age of 97.

Don was born on April 18, 1915, in Glen Flora, the first son of William and Gertrude Howard. He went to high school in Glen Flora. After completing high school, Don went to the Agriculture Short Course, at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

Most of Rusk County knows Don and his brother Hike as "Howard Bros, Electric." Their slogan was "Let us remove your shorts"; electrical shorts that is.

Don and Hike wired and rewired most of Rusk County over the 22-plus years they worked together, wiring barns, farms, homes, cabins, and businesses.

Don married Esther Albert in 1965 and lived on a farm near Holcombe.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was a master marksman and a member of the rifle and pistol clubs in Rusk County.

He was also a cabinet maker and built gun cabinets and end tables, which he gave to the Wildlife Restoration Association of Rusk County to help with their yearly fundraisers.

In 2007, he moved to Minong to live with his daughter Fawn and her husband.

After having a stroke, Don moved to the Benedictine Nursing Home in Spooner on Jan. 25, 2013. He was just two months from turning 98.

He will be missed very much by his sisters; Elizabeth McConnell of Minong and Shirley Wilson of Gladstone, Mich.; his brothers Marven (Dianna) Howard, of Tomahawk, Rufus (Caroline) Howard, and David (Peggy) Howard of Cocamo, Ind.; his children Larry (Opal) Albert of Interlachen, Fla., Jerry (Joyce) Albert of Kimble, Minn., and Fawn (Paul) Nedland of Minong; and his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held Saturday, March 2, at River Church in Minong.
