Joan Francis McMillan, daughter, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, and beloved friend passed away in her home, Saturday morning, April 14, 2007, after a long battle with emphysema. Joanie was born in Vallejo, Calif. on July 7, 1950. She moved to Boise at the age of 17 after graduating from Vallejo High School. She married Chester T. James and gave birth to Thomas in 1969. Later, she married Lyle M. McMillan and gave birth to John in 1974. Joan loved to play darts, bingo, and listen to her books-on-tape. She worked at a variety of places throughout her life, but her favorite occupation was caring for the elderly in nursing homes. In her last days, Nana enjoyed spending time with her grandkids Greysen, Darak, Gabrielle, and Izack and handing out cookies to all her grand-dogs. She was preceded in death by her sister Elaine Russell and her mother Esther Mersman. Her sons, her brother Glenn Starkey, and her sister Diane Schroeder survive her. Her memorial service will be held at River Valley Community Church, 1115 N. Garden St. in Boise at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2007. Per Joan´s request, please attend in T-shirts and jeans.
