R. Norman Stone, of Atlanta, died Sunday morning, November 27, 2016 at the age of 85 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He is survived by his sons and their families, Duane N. Stone and his spouse, Ken Walker, Todd L. Stone and his wife, Montie and their children, Lane and Leah. Norman was born February 25, 1931 in Nashville, TN to Rex Stone and Mary Bell Stone. His family moved to Decatur, Georgia in his first year and he was raised there. A star running back and athlete at Decatur High School, he earned a football scholarship to Georgia Tech under Coach Bobby Dodd. He also attended Georgia State University where he studied accounting and business. As a CPA, he became a partner at a very early age at Williford, Windham & Stone in Atlanta where he practiced until he retired in 2006.

Norman was married to his best friend, Peggy, for 57 years. His life revolved around his family. Many happy days were spent in Atlanta and at Lake Hartwell. He was also a nightly fixture seen jogging in the neighborhood. His warm, kind and generous nature was admired by all who knew him; however, he was also noted for his dry, quick wit. In fact, his witty poems for special occasions were always cherished. Visitation is scheduled for 2:00 PM with funeral service immediately after at 2:30 PM on Saturday, December 3 in the Grand Hall (new wing) at Oak Grove United Methodist Church, Decatur, GA.
