James Whittaker was the son of Joseph and Obedience Perdue Whittaker. No documentation has been found with a middle name or initial for James Whittaker, who was born abt. 1778 and died on 22 Jul 1864. If a valid source for a middle name is discovered, the middle name and documented source will be added to his memorial.

James Whittaker married Sarah Hicks, daughter of Reuben Hicks, on 10 Nov 1809 in Wythe County, Virginia. They became the parents of 11 children:

the son of James and Sarah Hicks Whitaker - Reuben Whitaker age 30 (born 1830), his wife, Nancy E. age 25 (1835), son, William R. age 8 (1852), daughters: Sarah E, age 6 (1854), Harriet age 5 (1855), and Margaret age 2 (1858).

Pulaski County Courthouse --Will Book 2 (1859-1871) page 198:
The will of James Whittaker, Sr. was dated 12 March 1864 in Pulaski County, Virginia, and names only his son-in-law, Patrick O'Donald and is witnessed by William J. Martin, Robert D. Martin, and Reuben Whittaker. The will was probated on 4 August 1864 in Pulaski County, Virginia.

D. Martin _______ the land I purchased from Js. Wygal, thereon ____ of the ____ is that the said O'Donald is to have and ________ the above-named tract of land during his lifetime, after his death to be sold and divided among my children these being _______ that the said O'Donald may at any time if he ______es sell and divide the sale proceeds after paying expenses of sale ______ if any, with my children as above stated Witness my hand seal this 12th day of March 1864.
