Peacefully passed away February 11, 2017. Virginia was born June 6, 1933 to George and Pauline Dent in Ventura County, CA, where she lived until her college years in San Jose. She married in 1956, and in 1969 moved with her growing family to the Coeur d'Alene area, where she lived and raised her family, moving to Spokane in 2010. Virginia ultimately had and raised 14 children, and from those she became a grandmother to 55 grandchildren and great-grandmother to 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her older brother, George, and younger brother Jerry, and is survived by younger sister Sharon and brother John. She was also preceded in death by grandchild Nicholas Scherling and by great-grandchild Levi Mason Pierce who passed shortly after birth July 27, 2014.

Virginia will be long remembered by the members of her family and Catholic parish in Rathdrum, as well as of Mt. St. Michael's Church in north Spokane. She will be most remembered for her fidelity to her traditional Catholic faith throughout her adult life, from the time of her conversion at the age of 20 to her passing, and for raising her children in that same faith. Her steadfastness was an inspiration for many. Virginia passed away after many years of suffering from ailments which began as a child. A Rosary will be held Febuary 17, 2017 at 7:00PM at Mt. St. Michael's Church. A funeral service will be held Febuary 18, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Mt. St. Michael's Church. Donations for Catholic Requiem Masses may be sent to Mt. St. Michael's Church, 8500 N St. Michael Rd., Spokane WA 99217.
