Jelte Pieters Sipma was born as the second child of Pieter Jeltes Sipma and Nieske Ysbrands Alders. He married Tjitske Pieters Sterk at Ferwerd, Ferwerderadiel municipality on November 28. 1912. His parents emigrated to Sheldon, Wisconsin, but Jelte en Tjitske ended up in Artesia, California.
