She was born June 27, 1920, in Doddridge County, daughter of the late Byram and Arie Hayes Hyde.
She was a devoted mother and homemaker and enjoyed baking and collecting family photographs. She was associated with the Walnut Grove United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two sons and spouses, Harold and Cheryl Abel Jr., of Bridgeville, Pa. and Gerald and Linda Abel, of Fairmont; two daughters and spouses, Patricia "Gay" and Joseph Winebarger, of Conover, N.C. and Betty and Dave Sanders, of Fairmont; a son-in-law, Frank Holt, of Fairmont; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Harold A. Abel Sr., on May 9, 1996; a son, Curtis Abel, in 1961; a daughter, Anna Holt, in 1997; six brothers, Oliver P. Hyde, Alvie Hyde, Roy Hyde, Charlie Hyde, Jesse Hyde and Cecil Hyde; two s isters, Hazel Martin and Leona Roderick; a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter.
Friends may call at Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 1-9 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, until the 1:30 p.m. service with the Rev. Bert Coffman officiating. Burial will be in Janes Memorial Cemetery.
