Lee was born in Jamestown on September 17, 1949 to LeRoy Sr. and Catherine (Fletcher) Mickelson. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1967. The following year Lee joined the Navy and served as a medic.
In 1975 he married Terri Jo Mickelson in Jamestown, ND. He started working for the BN railroad in 1976 working as a conductor until a work injury put him on early retirement. Because he was retired, he was able to be “Grandpa Daycare” to his 2 grandsons, Devin and Lucas Liscomb. He cherished every minute of the time he was able to spend with them and loved them dearly. He enjoyed teaching them to golf and always looked forward to golfing with them. One of his favorite things to do was watch them play sports and cheer them on.
Lee is survived by his wife, Terri Jo (Froehlich); his daughters, Jenna Mickelson and Tara (Robert) Liscomb; his grandsons, Devin and Lucas Liscomb; mother-in-law, Jackie Froehlich; siblings, Joyce (Larry) Hennings, Shelia Salberg, Sherry (Alex) Musgrave, Jean (Mark) Deery, Jerry (Carole Ann) Clark, Rick (Valerie) Mickelson, Miles Mickelson, Brant (Deza) Mickelson, Wayne (Ronnie) Mickelson, Terry Mickelson, Joel Mickelson, Wes (Jan) Froehlich, Rory (Lisa) Froehlich, Melodie (Brad) Utke, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Catherine Mickelson and Leo Froehlich; brother, Kim Mickelson; son, Jamie Lee Mickelson; and grandson, Jacob Allen Liscomb.
Thank you to his golfing buddies that spent every day for many years with him: Dennis Tronson, Jim Zastopil, Mark Handtman, John Dshaak, Ron Mrnak, and special buddies, grandsons, Devin and Lucas Liscomb.
