C. Thomas Begley "Papa Tom/Tommy", age 78, of Maryville, Tennessee, died of Merkel Cell Cancer on Wednesday, May 23, 2018.

He was dearly loved by the Baxter Clan.

Tom loved his wife Genny, she said that no other man would do what he did for me. They were most graceful when ballroom dancing and Tom was most joyful when he could celebrate the successes of his loved ones at graduations and life events. Tom was the world record holder from the 1968 Tennessee River Governors cup. A team of Tom, his father Lynwood, Jim Lowery, and George Smith ran by boat from Paducah, Kentucky to the headwaters of the Tennessee River by boat in 18 hours in 1968. He broke his own record two years later in just over 16 hours. Tom's great love was boat building and skiing. He built his first boat at 16, and was the owner of Honcho Boats.

Prior to retirement he worked for Bryant Boats and Yamaha. Tom was the world record holder in speed skiing in the 60's with a top speed of 73.2 mph. He passed this love of skiing by passing his prized Mendoza slalom ski to his granddaughter Rachel.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Lynwood and Dorothy of the Fairview Community.

He is survived by his wife, Genny , "GranGen/Genevieve" Kidd; the Baxter Clan; son, Scott (Debbie) Begley; grandchildren, Rachel Baxter, Caleb and Nathan Begley; sister, Ann (Jerry) Sluder; aunt, Marge Waddell and special nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Tom's well lived life will be held on June 16, 2018. The location and time will be announced later.

To honor Tom donations may be made in his memory to Fairview United Methodist Church, 2508 Old Niles Ferry Road, Maryville, TN 37803.
