He was a military policeman in the Army during World War II. He worked for the Shell Oil Company as a driver and salesman for 30 years before retiring in 1978. He was employed as a truck driver for two years at B&B Leasing in South Bend, IN. He and his wife also ran worked on the family farm in Benton Harbor, MI. He was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
