Son of George Adam Retschler and Phoebe Schwab, husband of Rita Rend Mitchell, whom he married on November 10, 1936 in Manhattan, New York, and father of Frederick, George Adam Jr., and Charles Rentschler.

Marriage - In a ceremony distinguished by its simplicity, Rita Rend Mitchell became Mrs. George Adam Rentschler yesterday afternoon. The talented daughter of Charles E. Mitchells wanted none of the trappings of the usual society bridal procession. The wedding took place at the apartment of the bride's parents at 1 Sutton Place South. Only members of the two families were present. There was no maid of honor. No best man. No bridesmaids or ushers. The Rev. Martin Fahy of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Tuxedo Park, where the Mitchells have a country place, came to town to perform the ceremony. Although Rita barred all pomp and ceremony, she couldn't resist dressing in the customary white satin, lace and tulle. She carried a white prayer book instead of a bouquet. And in at least one essential, the wedding was extraordinary. Ernest Schelling, an old friend of the Mitchells, brought along his violin and provided the ceremony with gorgeous music. Both Mrs. Mitchell and Rita are actively interested in music. About five years ago the Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra played Chopin's Polonaise No. 1, Opus 26, at a Lewisohn Stadium concert. The music, originally written for the piano, was orchestrated by Mrs. Mitchell.

Obituary - Rentschler - George Adam. On May 22, 1972. Beloved husband of Rita (nee Mitchell). Father of George A. Jr., Charles E.M., and Frederick B. Services at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, 50th St. and Park Ave., Thursday, May 25 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Southampton Hospital, Southampton, L.I.
